According to Stathead, since the start of 2024, Nigeria's Victor Osimhen has been credited with a cumulative expected goals (xG) value of 4.1 for the Italian top division. It's interesting to note that during that time, a prominent European team had a Nigerian player with a higher xG total. Who is this extraordinary goal-thief?

Osimhen Victor

Toluwalase Emmanuel Arokodare is this striker. In the first quarter of 2024, the forward from Genk is credited with 5.8 predicted goals in the Belgian top division. On January 20, his club hosted Cercle Brugge, and he opened the year with 0.2. Subsequently, OH Leuven and Sint-Truiden scored 0.3 and 0.4, respectively. Regretfully, he was unable to locate the objective in any of the games.

The leading scorer in the 2021/22 Coupe de France had to wait until February 11 to score his first goal of the season. When Genk visited Mechelen, the xG value was 0.6, which caused this strike. In the next game, he scored one goal as well. But this came from 1.7 projected goals, which is his season-high thus far. His last goal during that time came in the match against Union SG on April 1. He stuck with an xG of 0.8 this time.

On February 25, Osimhen played in his first domestic league match of the year, in contrast to Tolu. The current Serie A Golden Boot winner scored one out of 0.6 predicted goals as Napoli and Cagliari drew away from home. The current African Footballer of the Year scored a 1.3 xG value in his subsequent game. But from the opportunities, he scored three goals and even received an assist. Over the course of his three Premier League outings in March, the striker scored 2.1 anticipated goals. He failed to hit the target, though.
